Listen up guys – if you haven’t seen a urologist by age 50 to get a PSA test for Prostate Cancer do it now. It could save your life.

If Prostate Cancer is prevalent in your family history, get tested at age 40 or sooner.

If you’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer there are various options and opinions on what type of prostate cancer treatment a patient should seek.

Every patient and case is unique, therefore a specific treatment plan should be made for your individual needs and condition.

When Don was diagnosed at age 55 he sought out multiple opinions from different doctors and did extensive research which eventually led him to the CyberKnife Center of Miami and since his treatment several years ago, he’s been enjoying life to the fullest.

Don’s Journey to Prostate Cancer Treatment

Don first went to a urologist because of kidney stones and while there his doctor suggested he get a PSA test for prostate cancer since he’d never had one.

Don recalls, “I said no way. I have no symptoms and there’s no family history of prostate cancer.”  The doctor persuaded Don to take the test and much to his surprise they discovered his PSA level was high.

A biopsy confirmed Prostate Cancer so Don immediately began researching the best treatment options for and visited seven doctors offices.

“The majority recommended surgery. They said it was the best way to treat it at a young age. But I didn’t like the risk factors including damage to other organs, impotence, and incontinence,” said Don.

Although all of the surgeons’ Don spoke to assured him those things wouldn’t happen, Don wasn’t convinced. He knew of men experiencing such side effects after prostate surgery.

Don had heard about a non-invasive technique to treat Prostate Cancer called SBRT which was offered at the CyberKnife Center of Miami. He called and immediately consulted with the board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Mark Pomper to learn more about CyberKnife also known as Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and whether or not he qualified for this type of treatment.

Dr. Pomper recalls, “Don was a good candidate for CyberKnife because his tumor was small and hadn’t spread. There’s a general thought among surgeons that surgery is better for men under 60, but it often leads to undesirable side effects. I use CyberKnife Radiation Therapy because it’s often the best treatment option for many men.”

CyberKnife is a proven, safe, and effective radiation treatment option for Prostate Cancer and has been used for more than 30 years.

CyberKnife requires only 5 treatment sessions over 10 days compared to 42 treatments over several months with other types of radiation.

With image-guided robotics, the CyberKnife system precisely targets and non-invasively dissolves tumors and other lesions using hundreds of beams of high-energy radiation, hitting the site from multiple angles, while sparing the normal healthy tissue in the surrounding area.

With over 30 years of scientific research proving it’s safe and effective for many types of cancer Don made his decision and says, “Now I educate everyone I can about prostate cancer and CyberKnife. After my first treatment, I went to the gym and set my personal best bench press and endurance record and then hit the golf course. It’s like I never had Prostate Cancer.”
