If you are diagnosed with prostate cancer and want to know if there is a treatment alternative to surgery, rest assured, there is.
One of those treatments is CyberKnife, and it has a 98% success rate on early stages, when it comes to prostate cancer, according to the experts at the CyberKnife Center of Miami, South Florida’s most-experienced free-standing radiation center.
“If your doctor tells you, it’s not for you, go to a CyberKnife center and get a second opinion. Maybe it’s not the best treatment for you, but most of the time it is. CyberKnife is the most effective, safest and quickest way to treat prostate cancer so you can put it behind you and get on with your life,” Dr. Mark Pomper, medical director of CyberKnife Miami and board-certified radiation oncologist advises.
CyberKnife is a form of external radiation known as stereotactic body radiation therapy or SBRT. CyberKnife alone can treat prostate cancer, especially if it’s low grade and localized to the prostate cancer, and it can be used in conjunction with other therapies as well.
CyberKnife uses technology called image guided linear accelerator to deliver precision radiation by a robotic arm, according to Accuray, CyberKnife’s maker. “CyberKnife accuracy is sub-millimetric, which can help significantly reduce the risk of the side effects that too often disrupt the lives of patients during and after treatment,” Accuray states.
Why CyberKnife May Be Good for You
You may be a good candidate for CyberKnife if you want to complete your treatment in a shorter time span with little to no downtime.
CyberKnife treatments can be done in five therapy sessions over 10 days compared to 42 over three months with other types of radiation treatments.
CyberKnife is more accurate than traditional radiation. Treatments are outpatient, and patients do not have to change their lifestyles during treatment.
Prostate Cancer CyberKnife Treatment
According to OncoLink, while your age, overall health and lifestyle may play a role in choosing a treatment, those with early-stage, localized prostate cancers can be good candidates. Those with a prostate volume between 80-100 cc are also good candidates.
If your tumor cannot be treated with other therapies, you may benefit from CyberKnife as well.
And those with enlarged prostates may need hormone therapy to shrink the prostate prior to CyberKnife treatments.
Finally, if your cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, consult with the experts at CyberKnife Miami about whether you are a good candidate.
What CyberKnife Patients Have to Say about Treatment
