Is CyberKnife Covered By Insurance? Yes CyberKnife is Covered by Most Major Insurances Including Medicare and Medicaid

Is CyberKnife Covered by Insurance

One of the first questions many cancer patients ask is if their treatments are covered by insurance. The thought of mounting medical bills and financial burdens sometimes weigh just as heavy on patients and caregivers as the treatments themselves.

The experts at CyberKnife Center of Miami, the premiere radiation center for cancer treatment in South Florida, want you to know, in most cases CyberKnife, a highly-targeted form of stereotactic radiosurgery or SRS, also known at stereotactic body radisosurgery or SBRT is covered by insurance.

And we will help guide you through the complicated and often overwhelming insurance process.

CyberKnife Insurance Coverage for Spine, Lung, Liver and Prostate Cancers

It is always a good idea to check with your insurance company for confirmation that CyberKnife is covered, according to Accuray, the maker of CyberKnife.

But as of 2020 CyberKnife treatment for spine, lung, liver and prostate cancers are “covered by Medicare in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In addition, many private insurance payers cover SRS and SBRT treatment for spine cancer.”

Is CyberKnife for Brain Cancer Covered by Insurance?

“Medicare and private insurance companies in the United States may reimburse stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumors subject to medical necessity and your health insurance plan constraints. Patients should contact a CyberKnife treatment center to determine, if this procedure is a covered benefit under your health insurance plan and any out-of-pockets costs such as deductibles, co-insurances, and/or copayments,” according to Accuray.

Is CyberKnife for Pancreatic Cancer Covered by Insurance?

As for pancreatic cancers: “Most payers (government and private) should allow coverage for SBRT to treat pancreatic cancer subject to medical necessity. The CyberKnife center where the SBRT procedure will be performed will contact your insurance company to determine specific coverage criteria and any co-payments / co-insurance obligations,” Accuray says.

CyberKnife and Healthcare Spending Accounts or HSA

If you have an HSA, which allows you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for coinsurance, copayments, deductibles, and qualified medical expenses, you may be able to use some of this money toward CyberKnife treatment as well. Again, it’s up to your insurance plan, but if you choose a CyberKnife center — like CyberKnife Miami — we will help you navigate that process.

CyberKnife for Cancer Treatment

At CyberKnife Miami, we treat cancer and other medical issues requiring radiation including spine, brain, breast, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver, prostate and head and neck tumors.

We also treat lymphoma and other conditions in the body where radiation treatment is necessary. We even tackle hard-to-treat cancers for patients who have been turned away from other centers because of our expertise with CyberKnife.

CyberKnife’s missile guidance technology enables the system to track a tumor’s movement in real time. The technology delivers radiation directly to the tumor, while leaving healthy surrounding tissue unharmed. With CyberKnife, patients often need a shorter course of treatment than with traditional radiation because SRS and SBRT delivers targeted radiation.
