When Alex Correa showed up at the CyberKnife Center of Miami unannounced to inquire about being treated for prostate cancer he was nervous, but his urologist advised that CyberKnife radiation therapy at CyberKnife Miami was a great option for him.
Maria Kristina Borgen, the center’s manager says, “He just showed up at the center with his two daughters for support. He didn’t even call first, he just popped in, and I could tell he was nervous.”
But after meeting and talking to the team at CyberKnife Miami, including Maria Kristina, Mario Tobon, the lead radiation therapist and Dr. Mark Pomper the radiation oncologist and center’s medical director, Alex said, “I was so relieved. I felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders. I had all the confidence in the world that I was in the right place, and in the best hands with this medical team.”
Alex’s Gleason score was 7 for which he had 5 CyberKnife treatment sessions.
He did have some side effects, including frequent urination, tenderness in the area treated, and diarrhea which all subsided within a couple of weeks with over the counter medications, but he’s still a happy man.
Alex says, “I am so grateful my urologist told me to come here for treatment. I will miss these people, they are like family, and I’m going to continue to pop in to see them and say hi, and I want to get the word out about CyberKnife and this center in particular to help others who are trying to decide what to do and where to go for prostate cancer treatment.”
Alex is back to his active lifestyle, hiking, swimming, and doing voice over work, and now is using his voice to spread the word about CyberKnife technology and in particular the team at CyberKnife Miami.
Anyone who has ever been to the CyberKnife Center of Miami will tell you, “There is no other place like it.”
This is among the most experienced CyberKnife teams worldwide because they are among those doing it the longest, for more than 20 years now, and having treated thousands of patients since opening in 2003.
That’s why they know what can and can’t be done.
But just as important as providing cutting edge medical technology, this team is truly compassionate. Anyone who’s been here will tell you that.
Not only do we work with cancer patients every day, so we know how overwhelming and scary the process can be, but we also all know someone close to us who has cancer, or has gone through it, including family members, and we’re here to help you get through it as easily and quickly as possible, while maintaining your quality of life.
Dr. Pomper says, “We are not a big medical metropolis you’ll get lost in. We are a small medical center providing state-of-the-art cancer treatment, but that also gives our patients the one-on-one attention they want and need when going through cancer treatment.”
He adds, “We know it can be frightening, which is why we hold your hand every step of the way. If we can’t help you, we will tell you right up front, but most often we can. If not we will guide you in the right direction for the best possible medical outcome, because that’s how we roll. We treat patients like we want to be treated.”
At CyberKnife Miami, you will NOT find yourself sitting in a waiting room with a dozen or more other patients, waiting and waiting to be seen. Chances are there will only be one patient, and it will be you. You get our utmost attention. And anyone can come here. You don’t need a doctors referral. You can even come for a second opinion. And yes, CyberKnife therapy is covered by most insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid.
If that all sounds good to you, and you want to find out if we can help you, just call 305-279-2900. Chances are a real person will answer the phone, and if we can’t because we are with a patient, a real person will call you back. You will not get stuck listening to endless, confusing recordings about what to do next. Just leave your message with your phone number and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
