Right out of the gate, it looked like Cyberknife was going to win the Happyrun Travers Stakes race.
Sitting in the #1 poll position, he broke out fast and was in the lead most of way down the track, until the very end when Epicenter came from behind, beating him. Cyberknife then maintained his position to the end and came in 2nd place.
Cyberknife ran a great race and he’ll be back on November 7th running in the Breeders’ Cup.
Of course we will be cheering him on again.
In the meantime, what’s most important, as millions of people around the world watch these horse races, Cyberknife continues to educate the world about this life saving cancer treatment. And that was his owners goal.
Al Gold named his best racehorse after CyberKnife technology successfully treated his prostate cancer.
He did it so more people would learn about CyberKnife cancer treatment.
“It’s one horse I’ve given a serious name,” said 66-year-old Gold, “because it’s a serious subject.”
Gold was shocked when he received the cancer diagnosis. “I was worried about my family. That’s what you worry about. It is scary,” he said.
Doctors outlined a variety of possible treatments, including prostate surgery.
But it was a couple of his friends who urged Gold to explore CyberKnife, a non-invasive treatment that delivers targeted radiation to destroy tumors, even in the most difficult to reach places in the body and even tracks the tumor’s movement, so no surrounding healthy tissue is damaged, which can result in side effects.
“I had very good conversations with the CyberKnife doctors. They walked me through it every step of the way” said Gold.
Gold had five CyberKnife treatments, each 18 minutes. “After that, I was fine. No symptoms, no side effects, nothing,” he said. “It was so much better than all the other scary cancer treatments.”
While Cyberknife, the 3-year-old racehorse has won 5 out of 9 races, win or lose, each time he races he spreads the word about this life saving cancer treatment and that’s always a WIN WIN.
CyberKnife treats almost any kind of tumor, anywhere in the body without surgery. And while it’s been FDA approved since 2001 and has successfully treated hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide, your doctor may not know about it or tell you about it. Especially if the center he or she works at doesn’t have CyberKnife technology.
